The accidental death on a motorcycle by Josef Strauss shocked all of Weitersfelden in Upper Austria. Condolences go to the extended family. The local SPÖ head was popular across party lines.
“Last Friday we serenaded Josef on his 55th birthday while we were sorting out the wood. He will be missed by all of us in the community and beyond,” ÖVP Mayor Franz Xaver Hölzl in Weitersfelden mourned not only a long companion in local politics, but also his brother-in-law.
died innocent
Josef Strauss, who has been on the SPÖ city council since 2003 and has led the local party since last year’s elections, died innocently on Sunday in a motorcycle accident in Bad Großpertholz (Waldviertel). He had spontaneously agreed to go on a trip with an acquaintance (51). The duo had already turned around again due to a storm when the oncoming car of a woman from Lower Austria (20) ended up on the wrong side of the road and rammed into the engine of the Mühlviertler.
“He never said no”
“It’s a great loss to the family,” said the brother-in-law — Strauss leaves behind his wife, three children, three grandchildren — the fourth is on the way — his parents and ten siblings. In the municipality was the skilled bricklayer and now Voestler was involved in the sports association, in the Langfirling fire brigade and was in charge of the nature lovers. “He was always there when you needed him, he never said no,” the mayor praises his companion: “It was always about interfaces across party lines.”
