A spectacular accident occurred on the Rheinatalautobahn in Vorarlberg on Monday evening. A 39-year-old was driving his car in the Pfänden Tunnel towards Tyrol when, for reasons that are still unclear, he lost control and crashed into a concrete vehicle barrier without braking.

The 39-year-old was coming from Germany on the Rhine Valley Motorway towards Tyrol at 7.57 pm when, for reasons that are still unclear, he veered into the Pfänden tunnel near the right edge of the road. the second breakdown area and crashed into the concrete vehicle barrier at the end of the breakdown area without braking.

Fire brigade with heavy equipment in action
According to the police, the white car then crashed into the tunnel wall on the left and eventually came to a stop in the right lane. The driver of the accident had to be freed from the completely destroyed wreck using heavy equipment by the fire brigade, which arrived with a total of eight vehicles and fifty Florianis. He had sustained injuries of an unknown nature.

Tunnel had to be closed
The vehicle deflector in the breakdown area was severely damaged and material damage also occurred to the tunnel wall. Due to the accident, the Pfändetunnel was closed to all traffic towards Tyrol and Germany from 7:58 PM to 9:14 PM.
