A train almost derailed near the southern Italian city of Pompeii. The culprit is a bathtub that unknown people placed on the track of the regional railway line ‘Circumvesuviana’. “Vandalism is the order of the day here,” criticized the transport company’s president, Umberto De Gregorio.
“This irresponsible action could have had terrible and dramatic consequences for thousands of passengers. “Fortunately the driver had the time and concentration to brake and avoid a catastrophe,” he wrote on Facebook. De Gregorio posted a photo of the unusual incident. According to him, the recording was made on Monday evening between the Pompeii and Scafati stations in southern Italy.
Here is a photo of the bathtub on the rails.
Not an isolated case
Unknown people placed the bathtub at a railway crossing. The driver of a passing regional train saw them in time and was able to brake. The railway line must be protected and all obstacles removed as quickly as possible, the president of Eav, the public transport company in the southern Italian region of Campania, demanded after the incident.
Investigations have already started. According to De Gregorio, this is not an isolated case. That same evening, a car got stuck on another railway line.
