On Friday evening, a fire broke out in a residential building in Maurach am Achensee (Tyrol’s Schwaz district). There were twelve people in the building at the time, some of whom had to leave the house using the turntable ladder. Two women were taken to hospital.
Around midnight the fire broke out in the living room of the house while a total of twelve people were inside. Eight residents managed to escape. However, four others were trapped upstairs. The alerted fire brigade had to evacuate the four residents via the turntable ladder from the balcony.
Thick clouds of smoke drifted throughout the building. Two women, 63 and 33-year-old Austrians, had to be taken to the hospital in Schwaz by the rescue team with suspected smoke poisoning.
The cause of the fire is under investigation
70 firefighters from Eben, Pertisau, Achenkirch and Schwaz extinguished the flames, but could not prevent the living room where the fire broke out from completely burning out. It is not yet clear what caused the fire. Police fire investigators are now at work.
