Those responsible for a citizens’ initiative in Lustenau (Vorarlberg) resorted to unusual measures: Because there is massive through traffic on one of the streets through the city and the citizens feel abandoned by politics, they have now taken action themselves .
The citizens’ initiative “Living space for the future Lustenau – Lower Rhine Valley” caused a stir on Monday with a media-effective campaign: Residents have been complaining for years about the massive transit traffic between Switzerland and Lustenau – especially on the L 203. Numerous speeding violations cause even more noise, dust and exhaust fumes .
Despite promises from politicians, nothing has happened so far. According to the citizens’ initiative, a working group promised by State Councilor Marco Tittler had not produced any results even after a year. For citizens it is very clear what is needed: stationary radar systems to stop daily racing on the route.
Finally, hit the brakes
Because they feel left alone by the political side and no longer want to stand idly by, the citizens have now come up with something: on Monday they set up two radar columns – but not a real one. These are just dummies. Those responsible hope that the many car and truck drivers will finally put on the brakes. For Lustenau, one can only hope that the “forgeries” will have an impact.
