Disgusting discovery in a restaurant in Brigittenau. The operators had to close immediately due to vermin.
The officials of the Immediate Action Group do not experience something like this every day: after a tip from the financial police, serious hygienic deficiencies were discovered in a restaurant in Brigittenau.
In addition to cockroaches, authorities also discovered other violations of sanitary standards. Of particular concern was the discovery of a sleeping area on the property, which is clearly in breach of building regulations. The health service (MA 15) and the building police (MA 37) were also present during the inspection.
Mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ) said: “The diversity of restaurants in our city contributes significantly to the quality of life of the Viennese people. Non-compliance will be punished consistently as the health of our citizens is the highest priority.” Walter Hillerer, head of the immediate measures group, emphasizes: “Hygiene is not an option, but an obligation. We will not allow a few businesses to jeopardize trust in our city’s restaurants.”
Reopening only possible after inspection
Several procedures have now been initiated by the municipal services. To reopen, the company must comply with a number of measures. This includes immediately hiring a professional pest controller to ensure that the cockroach problem is resolved. A new inspection by MA 59 is then required. Once sanitary standards are fully restored, the restaurant can reopen to guests.
