An alcoholic driver from America rammed a plainclothes police patrol vehicle into the Gleinalm tunnel on the Styrian Pyhrnautbahn (A9) on Tuesday evening. The two officers were injured, the Styrian state police announced on Wednesday.
The American drove into the civilian police car in the Gleinalm tunnel towards Graz around 6:30 p.m. A breath test on the 33-year-old American was positive and he is being reported. The two police officers went to the doctor themselves.
The heavily damaged vehicles were pulled out of the tunnel by a towing company. The volunteer fire brigades S. Michael and Bösebach-Markt cleared the rubble from the accident site. The tunnel was closed to all traffic towards Graz from 6:30 PM to 7:40 PM.
