The Viennese sausage makers have joined forces. UNESCO protection for “leiwande” stands is just one of the goals of the new association. The “Krone” took a look behind the scenes of a sausage stall and learned exciting details about the unique profession.
The sausage stand is as much a part of Vienna as the coffee house and the Heuriger – and yet he has had no one to speak out on his behalf. That should change now, as the Standlers are now taking matters into their own hands.
„“People really come together”
The entire Viennese sausage stand aristocracy (see photo above) gathered in front of the “crown” on the Schwarzenbergplatz with the initiator of the idea, the “spirited René” Kachlir, to show their colors: nothing less than the recognition of the Viennese sausage stand as a UNESCO World Heritage Site that you want to achieve together – and you have good reasons for this.
