A man and a woman from Wiener Neustadt (Lower Austria) had to be rescued by air police from Raxalpe. The 25-year-olds were probably not sufficiently equipped for the climbing tour.
Around noon, the two 25-year-olds from Wien Neustadt went on a climbing tour on the Alpine Club Trail from the Großer Höllental to the Raxalpe in the Neunkirchen district. The two ended up in a steep, icy snow field in the area of the Gustav-Jahn-Steig, in the municipality of Reichenau an der Rax, and were effectively trapped. It was not possible for the two climbers to progress or descend safely. The reason for this was probably the faulty equipment.
Expensive climbing trip
Ultimately, the two had to make an emergency call. The Alpine Police quickly arrived on the scene. A police officer rescued the 25-year-old from the wall using dew rescue with the air police helicopter. The stake is charged to both climbers.
