On orders from France: nuclear energy becomes a nuclear “fungus” in the EU

Date:

French President Emmanuel Macron used the Atomic Forum in the Czech Republic to win multimillion-dollar nuclear contracts.

French state-owned electricity company EDF is already well into the race to expand the Czech Dukovany and Temelín reactors. The only competitor left after the public tender was a South Korean bidder. President Macron exchanged ideas even more intensively with his Prague colleague Petr Pavel.

“The EDF itself is having major problems in France and is now offering a modified reactor type for Dukovany that does not yet exist. “It can’t go well,” says internationally associated Vienna GLOBAL 2000 expert Reinhard Uhrig, who is extremely critical of the upcoming deal.

Climate neutrality feasible?
Meanwhile, the top EU energy ministers have exposed the differences on the path to climate neutrality. Because while France is happy with any option, including full use of nuclear energy, an alliance of eco-states, which includes Austria, Germany, Spain and Italy, relies on renewable energy.

On the other hand, the European ‘Nuclear Alliance’ led by Macron wants to achieve the goals defined by the EU with nuclear energy. “The only thing that matters is reducing greenhouse gas emissions,” Economy Minister Bruno Le Maire said bluntly.
