The aim of this alliance is to provide sustainable and agile multimodal port activities and to facilitate compatibility between both ports in areas such as technological progress or deployed infrastructure.
The Port Authority of Bilbao and Portsmouth International Port have signed an agreement to collaborate and contribute to the growth of freight and passenger transport through joint actions to develop green and digital maritime corridors between both ports.
The aim of this alliance is to provide sustainable and agile multimodal port operations and to facilitate compatibility between both ports in areas such as technological progress or deployed infrastructure, and especially with regard to the supply of shore power to ships providing services in both ports. a note: the Port Authority of Bilbao has explained that it in turn is already implementing the BilbOPS project, with an investment of 78 million, of which 14.2 million will be subsidized by the European Commission within the program of CEF Transport Aid 2021-2027 .
This project aims to electrify the docks with returning traffic and provide renewable energy to ships during their stay in port, and will be operational in 2026. Portsmouth International Port’s Sea Change project will in turn design, build and operate a shore power system at the three most active docks.
Likewise, it will also allow us to deepen cooperation for the development of green and digital maritime corridors between both ports to help shift traffic from road to sustainable navigation routes.
To do this, they will share information and promote the use of advanced systems and automation infrastructures for passenger and cargo operations at ferry and cruise terminals.
