A rather unusual operation for the volunteer fire brigade in the Stainz district of Graschuh (Styria): an excavator fell into a pond while digging. The rescue took three hours. Fortunately, no one was injured.
An excavator operator was excavating near a pond when his vehicle suddenly began to slide in the mud. The equipment tipped over and landed on its side in the water.
Three fire brigades in action
The operations manager of the alerted FF Rassach, Chief Fire Inspector Ernst Ninaus, called in the comrades of the Ettendorf fire brigade with the oil-damaged vehicle and the troops of the Schamberg fire brigade to provide further support.
Ultimately, the excavator was rescued after about three hours with the help of so-called wooden pole anchors and the telehandler. The drained operating fluid was bound and drained. After four hours, the 32 emergency services were able to return to the armory. Fortunately, the excavator operator was unharmed.
