A 52-year-old Russian woman had to answer charges of serious commercial fraud at the Feldkirch Regional Court on Thursday. The woman was sentenced to a very painful fine.
The previously innocent woman worked for years as a newspaper deliverer. On an employment contract basis. However, she has not reported the source of her income to the authorities. Instead, she brazenly continued to collect basic necessities from the district administration. It was not just about the much-quoted peanuts: in the period from January 2015 to the end of August 2023, the woman from the Dornbirn region enriched herself with around 65,500 euros.
The suspect admits guilt and is remorseful
On Wednesday, the 52-year-old was tried by the Feldkirch Regional Court for serious commercial fraud. “I plead guilty,” the defendant accepts full responsibility. However, she did not know that she had to report her income to the office. Nevertheless, the Russian woman agrees to make up for the damage as much as possible. What her lawyer Toni Jakupi also brings to the meeting: “My client has already started repaying, although the amount is still limited to 30 euros.”
Conviction of guilt as charged
Judge Alexander Wehinger finds the woman guilty as charged and imposes a suspended prison sentence of four months and an unconditional fine of 1,200 euros. She can now pay off the amount in installments. The Russian woman has been working as a newspaper deliverer again since the beginning of March, but this time she has a permanent job. The verdict is already legally binding.
