Large-scale operation in Tyrol – home of a family of six in flames

Date:

Large-scale fire brigade operation Saturday evening in Silz in the Tyrolean Oberland: a residential building in the community’s dense city center was on fire. More than a hundred emergency services fought against the inferno. The residents – a family of six – were unharmed. Due to the extensive damage, they cannot return to the house for the time being.

Around 8 p.m., a 36-year-old resident noticed that the power had gone out in the home. “When he finally went to the front of the house, he noticed that the roof structure was on fire. “He immediately raised the alarm and warned the other residents,” said police spokesman Stefan Eder when asked by “Krone”.

Still in the equipment house after training
Then things happened in quick succession: the fire brigade was on site within three minutes (!). The Florianis had held an exercise in the afternoon. “At the time of the alarm, approximately thirty members were still in the equipment shed and were able to get outside immediately,” explains fire chief Michael Haslwanter.

When we arrived, the fire was already visible and the operations manager also alerted the neighboring fire brigades of Haiming and Mötz. “When we arrived, the roof structure was already completely on fire. In total, about 120 firefighters battled the flames,” Haslwanter said.

House uninhabitable for the time being
According to the operations manager, a family of six lives in the house. All residents were able to get to safety. “There were no injuries,” police spokesman Eder confirmed. The entire first floor, the attic area with the roof structure and an attached shed were affected by the fire. The house is currently uninhabitable. “The mayor has issued an entry ban,” the fire brigade said. According to Haslwanter, alternative accommodation has now been arranged for the family.

Difficult operation in the city center
The operation was difficult for the fire brigade because it was a densely built-up area. Neighboring buildings are sometimes only a few inches away. “The goal was to prevent the flames from spreading. “Which ultimately worked,” says the operations manager. Only one neighboring house had its windows cracked due to the enormous heat.

Finally, around midnight, the “fire was extinguished”. There was still a fire watch on site that night. The cause of the fire is currently completely unclear. Research into this is ongoing.
