Secret Service Thriller – This mistake was the downfall of the American mole

He folds his hands behind his head, takes a few steps back, seems almost helpless. The young man slowly approaches heavily armed officers. And then the handcuffs click. Moments later, he is loaded into a vehicle. The scene described – captured forever live on American television – shows how a 21-year-old loses something important: his freedom.

For a few minutes, eyes from around the world focused on young American Jack Teixeira, who was quietly reading a book on the front porch of his childhood home in the small town of Dighton just before his arrest. But why is there a special commando from the FBI to arrest this very childish looking person?

Jack Teixeira is “OG”
It appears to be the man behind the largest US leak of classified information since Edward Snowden. Under the alias “OG” – internet slang for “original gangster” – he is said to have shared more than 100 US Secret Service documents with his internet friends in a closed group on the Discord messenger platform. Many of them were top secret.

Teixeira is a United States military veteran in the National Guard as an IT and communications specialist and held the rank of Airman First Class – the third lowest possible rank. As such, the 21-year-old apparently had access to many classified documents.

But unlike Snowden, Jack Teixeira is not allowed to be a whistleblower. He probably just wanted to impress his friends. The Discord group, in which he appears to be the “leader”, has about two dozen members, including people from Russia and Ukraine. What unites them is their “love of guns, military equipment, and God,” the Washington Post reported.

Consequence wrong
Jack Teixeira has retired from his position for several months. First only handwritten documents. But he was frustrated that others in the group weren’t paying enough attention to his revelations. He starts uploading photos of printed documents.

When he tried to ‘inform’ his digital friends about the war in Ukraine, the IT specialist made a crucial mistake. He probably sealed his fate when he photographed the top-secret military briefings that he printed out and took home. Because he gave journalists and detectives clues about his interior design.

In the background is a worktop in the kitchen of the parental home. The plate is made of granite and has a striking brown-reddish pattern. Other shots show the kitchen’s white tile floor.

For example, “New York Times” journalists were able to compare the crime scene to photos posted by relatives of the 21-year-old. The trail soon led to Jack Teixeira.

This led to the curious situation that journalists from the American newspaper knocked on his door hours before the arrival of the FBI. When asked if the “Airman” was present and ready to speak, his stepfather said, “He’ll need a lawyer if things go the way they are right now. I’m sure the federal police will be there soon .”

he was right. Teixeira is now arraigning in federal court in Boston and charged with two counts under the espionage law. At the brief hearing, US Attorney Nadine Pellegrini said the government would seek 10 years in prison for each of the allegations. Teixeira was under no obligation to comment on the allegations. That will likely be the case at his next hearing on Wednesday.

The indictment refers only to a document on the status of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. It seems likely that this is a sample document and that prosecutors will cite other documents in possible further charges or in the course of a trial. FBI Agent Patrick Lueckenhoff also testified in court that Teixeira was identified by a member of his chat group from his driver’s license photo.

In other words, this young American soldier will soon have to trade his uniform for a prison uniform. And for a very long time. And why? Because he wanted to please people he had never met in person.
