A homeowner in the Villach neighborhood responded quickly Thursday morning by using his tractor to push away a burning small truck parked near a residential building. This prevented the flames from spreading.
The fire in the engine compartment of the commercial vehicle, which was parked directly in front of a residential building in the courtyard of a farm in Fürnitz, was probably caused by an electrical defect. The 55-year-old driver from Villach was doing work and initially did not notice the smoke.
But the homeowner did, who immediately alerted the emergency services and tried to contain the fire with a hand fire extinguisher. When that didn’t help, he started his tractor and pushed the burning vehicle away.
A lightning-fast response prevented something worse from happening
This made it possible to prevent the fire from spreading to the home at the last minute. The little truck was totaled. The fire brigades of Fürnitz and Gödersdorf carried out follow-up extinguishing work with heavy respiratory protection and the vehicle was also examined for embers with a thermal imaging camera. Fortunately, no one was injured.
