Israeli shelling? – Countless deaths again while receiving relief supplies

Date:

Apparently, numerous deaths have occurred again while receiving aid deliveries in the Gaza Strip. The Hamas-controlled Health Ministry said at least 20 people were killed and more than 150 injured. According to the Palestinian side, Israeli forces opened fire on waiting people. Israel denies the accusations.

“Press information that Israeli forces attacked dozens of Gaza residents at an aid distribution point is incorrect,” it said in a short statement on Friday evening. However, the incident is being “seriously investigated”.

Reporters saw bodies with gunshot wounds
The Hamas Health Ministry had earlier said that Israeli soldiers shot at people waiting for help at a roundabout in the Gaza city on Thursday. News agency AFP reported that an employee had seen bodies and injured people with gunshot wounds.

The Reuters news agency reported – citing Palestinian health authorities – a new Israeli attack on aid distribution. Eight people were killed in an airstrike on an aid distribution center in the Al-Nuseirat camp in the central Gaza Strip.

Shot fired: Israeli soldiers felt ‘threatened’
At the end of February, more than a hundred Palestinians were killed in the Gaza Strip when Israeli soldiers opened fire upon the arrival of trucks carrying aid, according to Hamas. The Israeli military subsequently acknowledged a “limited” number of shots fired by Israeli soldiers who felt “threatened.” According to this report, thousands of residents had gathered around the trucks, dozens of people were injured and killed in the crowd, and some were run over by trucks.

UN: 2.4 million Palestinians on the brink of famine
After more than five months of war between Israel and Hamas, the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip is catastrophic. According to the UN World Food Program (WFP), the 2.4 million Palestinians living there are on the brink of famine. Several countries are now dropping aid from the sky to help the people in the Gaza Strip. The Open Arms ship with approximately 200 tons of relief supplies on board is also sailing towards the Gaza Strip.

However, it is still unclear where the NGO ship will be allowed to dock. A temporary walkway was built, aid organization World Central Kitchen reported the day before, without naming the exact location. The non-governmental organization has been active in the Gaza Strip for months.
