A computer glitch at McDonald’s has brought numerous branches of the fast food chain to a standstill in Austria, Germany and many other countries around the world. However, the American company ruled out a hacker attack. “There is a technical glitch that is impacting our restaurants,” McDonald’s said Friday. The company is working on a solution.
“Our restaurants were briefly affected by a technical fault this morning, which has now been resolved,” McDonald’s Austria said. However, the disruption was not a “cyber security event.”
The disruption started in the early morning hours. According to the Japanese division, many branches are no longer taking orders due to the interruption.
From Austria to Australia
According to the head office there, the disruption also affects the branches in Australia. The New York Times also reported on a computer system failure at McDonald’s in Hong Kong, and a report in the New Zealand Herald said there are IT problems in New Zealand. Accordingly, features are limited or customers cannot place orders at all.
McDonald’s operates nearly 3,000 stores in Japan, about 1,000 locations in Australia, about 245 locations in Hong Kong and more than 160 restaurants in New Zealand, according to their respective regions’ websites.
