Mystery surrounding MH370 – The Prime Minister of Malaysia tempers the hopes of the relatives

Date:

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim warns of high expectations for a breakthrough in the mystery surrounding Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, which disappeared more than ten years ago. But he promises the survivors that he will leave no stone unturned.

“I don’t want to give you false hope that we will get an answer,” Anwar said in Berlin on Friday, addressing the relatives of the missing. He added: “But I want to convince them that we are doing everything we can.” Even if it ends up costing ‘significant resources’.

The unsolved mystery
He himself was surprised by what happened on March 8, 2014. “I cannot understand how in this day and age a steel giant like this can just disappear,” said the prime minister of the Southeast Asian country. The Malaysia Airlines plane was flying from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 people from 14 countries when it disappeared from radar screens about two hours after takeoff.

It is known that the plane continued to fly over the Indian Ocean for about seven hours. What happened next remains one of the greatest mysteries in aviation history.

The search can be resumed
Debris washed up on shores along the Indian Ocean. There is still no trace of the plane’s main fuselage, its occupants or the flight recorder. Malaysia, China and Australia launched an underwater search that was canceled in 2017 without results.

A few days ago, Malaysian Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced that the search for the machine might resume. That’s why the American specialist company Ocean Infinity has offered a new search, which only requires payment if the company finds what it is looking for. Once the company’s final proposal is ready, it will be submitted to the Cabinet for approval, the minister said. He gave no time frame.

Prime Minister Anwar now said he expects a decision in the coming weeks. A previous search by Ocean Infinity had yielded no results.
