Mäder’s local boss Rainer Siegele (66) will officially resign on Friday. In the “Krone” he looks back on 31 years in his model environmental community and reveals why Health Minister Johannes Rauch never wanted to establish a green local group in the Rhine Valley community.
“Kron”: You are the third longest-serving mayor in the country. Wouldn’t it be a goal to still be number one?
Rainer Siegele: That will be difficult because Walter Rauch in Dünserberg and Martin Vallaster in Bartholomäberg are younger than me. Moreover, the ÖVP has the absolute majority in the Mäder municipal council and we have a very good candidate. I assume that my favorite successor will also be elected during the meeting on Friday. The next window in which the city council could choose a successor would not open again until March 2028. I would be 71 – definitely too old.
