For the seventh time in a row, Finland is the country with the happiest population in the world. Austria dropped from eleventh to fourteenth place.
In the World Happiness Report, scientists looked at the period between 2021 and 2023. Subjective assessments were made of the lives of the population living in the country.
Finland, Denmark and Iceland in top 3
It turns out that countries from the north also take the top positions this year. Finland was followed by Denmark, Iceland, Sweden and Israel.

In the list, the largest countries are no longer among the happiest 20 – the USA has also fallen: place 23 instead of last place 15. The ranking includes a total of 143 countries.
Afghanistan is the rearguard
Global happiness inequality has increased by more than 20 percent across all regions and age groups over the past twelve years. According to the World Happiness Report, Afghanistan is the unhappiest country. There is a difference of about six points on the average happiness scale of zero to ten between the country of the happiest people, Finland (7.7) and Afghanistan (1.7).
What do the Finns do differently from other peoples?
According to the World Happiness Report, factors such as social support, income, freedom and the absence of corruption play a major role. People in the Scandinavian countries would rate their own lives very highly on these points.
