The storms had been announced, but were sometimes much more extreme than expected: large parts of Styria were hit by heavy rain, heavy rain and even hail on Thursday afternoon. The fire brigade had their hands full.
The area around Leoben was also hit extremely hard. “In the city alone, the fire brigade had to deploy twelve vehicles and 60 men,” says commander Mario Burger. “A total of 36 jobs were registered in a short time, mainly pumping work in basements and on the street. It really came down, even with hail.” The work lasted about 45 minutes until late in the evening.
Florianis were also needed in other parts of Styria after heavy rains fell in a short period of time, roads were muddy and basements flooded.
