Dramatic large fire Monday morning in an old building in Solingen: three people died, including a child. This was confirmed by a fire brigade spokesperson. A toddler is still missing.
On Monday evening, a fire broke out in a residential building in the German city of Solingen (North Rhine-Westphalia). According to the fire brigade, the fire probably started on the first floor of the old building. The fire spread very quickly in the 100-year-old building with wooden ceilings and a wooden staircase.
The stairwell was already completely on fire
“The colleagues tried to enter the building via the stairwell, which was completely on fire,” said a fire brigade spokesperson. The first priority was saving human lives.
Three bodies found
Unfortunately, the efforts came too late for two adults and a child, who were found dead. The fire brigade assumes that it concerns a family with two children who lived in the attic of the four-storey house. A small child is still missing and emergency services are searching for him with rescue and body sniffing dogs.
According to information from ‘Bild’, dramatic scenes took place beforehand: a resident of the burning house jumped from the third floor with a small child in his arms. They were safely accommodated in a fire brigade jumping mat. According to a fire brigade spokesperson, another person also jumped into the depths. But she landed on the roof of a car and was seriously injured.
Nine seriously injured
A total of nine people were taken to hospitals with serious injuries due to the fire. The fire was under control on Monday morning. The cause is not yet clear.
