Fire alarm on Monday evening in East Tyrol: A fire broke out for unknown reasons in an apartment in an apartment building in Matrei. Neighbors heard the resident’s desperate cries for help and immediately raised the alarm. The 83-year-old was eventually rescued from the smoke-filled rooms.
At around 12:45 a.m., a fire broke out in an apartment on the third floor of the apartment building. A neighbor heard cries for help and immediately alerted the fire brigade. “Their husband now warned the other residents,” fire manager Martin Köll told the “Krone”.
When emergency services arrived, all residents were safe – except the 83-year-old resident of the affected apartment. The pensioner was eventually discovered in the completely smoke-filled apartment. “It was a matter of just a few minutes,” says Köll, describing the dramatic situation.
Resident brought to safety
The elderly woman was brought to safety by the emergency services using a turntable ladder and treated by the rescue team – including for suspected smoke poisoning. The fire brigade, who had discovered a fire in the kitchen, was able to quickly get the situation under control.
The exact cause of the fire is currently unknown and is the subject of an ongoing investigation. A total of 70 members and ten vehicles from the Matrei fire brigades in East Tyrol and Huben, two rescue cars with four paramedics and two police patrols were deployed.
