Using scissors and a butter knife, three teenagers robbed the caretaker of a shared apartment in MA11. Because she reminded the boys to rest at night, a 15-year-old got angry and made the decision. And all this just five days before his first trial at the Vienna Regional Court…
Bad family relationships, the wrong circle of friends, dead and absent parents – the three young people have had to endure a lot individually. The first defendant (15) had to be placed in a residential care center after the death of his mother. His 16-year-old friend was in the hospital and crisis center several times – he does not want to talk about the reason.
Butter knife and scissors as knives
Just like the 14-year-old third member of the group, who didn’t want to talk about what caused his, as he calls it, ‘problematic time’. Now they all sit together in the Vienna Regional Court, with their heads bowed. On February 7, the young people met at the 15-year-old’s shared apartment and wanted to cook something that evening around half past eight. The curfew at the residential care center is at ten o’clock, a social worker reminded the first defendant.
Then he and the 14-year-old made a decision: rob the caregiver. “Out of anger?” asks Judge Hahn – “We wanted to rob you in advance. But we were afraid of it,” the 15-year-old admits. Armed with scissors and a butter knife, the three went to the woman’s office. “I won’t do anything, just give me the money,” said one of the defendants, pointing the scissors at the supervisor. They also took away her mobile phone.
They eventually retrieved 2,005 euros from a locked cassette, the meal allowance for the other young people in the shared apartment. The three were caught in the stairwell. It is still a serious robbery. And this just a few days before the first trial against the first defendant for an incident with a fire extinguisher in a crisis center in the 15th arrondissement. He therefore receives a suspended additional sentence of eleven months.
Defender remains optimistic
The second suspect, a 16-year-old, is on probation for six months. He just went along with it, he meekly tells the judge. The youngest receives a suspended prison sentence of nine months. “He has now brought some order back into his life,” says his defender Wolfgang Haas, convinced he will finish high school. The statements are not legally binding.
