Date:

At least five people did not survive the tragic bus accident on Wednesday, krone.at reports. Rescue work is underway and a recovery crane is on site, a police spokeswoman said in the evening. In the meantime, more and more details about the terrible accident are becoming known.

A double-decker bus from Flixbus was scheduled to take passengers from Berlin to Zurich on Wednesday morning. However, between the Wiedemar junction and the Schkeuditzer Kreuz (Saxony), the vehicle left the road and overturned. Police report several deaths and about twenty injuries. It is still unclear why the car left the road.

A passenger reported to the “Leipziger Volkszeitung” that the journey was bumpy the entire time. At one point the driver even missed the route and had to suddenly brake. He had an argument with a colleague.

Children hung upside down in seat belts
“Suddenly we were tossed back and forth and my eyes went black,” the mother remembers. She was traveling with her three children. When she came to, the bus was already on its side. According to their descriptions, the little ones were hanging upside down in the seat belts – which may have saved their lives.

They were then taken to a hospital and were able to leave the hospital the same day. Flixbus offered to continue the journey or return to Berlin. The mother still hesitates: “We have nothing at the moment, our suitcases are all still on the bus.”
