Screeching tires, loud music, whining engines and speeding: this is what residents of Vienna-Döbling are currently dealing with. After the district was able to successfully scale back the tuner meetings at Kahlenberg, the young car fans are now causing sleepless nights in Heiligenstädter Straße. District leader Daniel Resch (ÖVP) is already looking for a solution together with the police. “I will not give up!”
“This problem has existed since Corona,” a resident of Döbling said irritatedly to the “Krone”. The situation came to a head on the night of Easter Sunday to Monday. “From 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. there was unbearable noise. It is almost impossible to sleep here anymore,” said 42-year-old Döblinger. Women were also assaulted on the street.
The district and the police are looking for a solution
The police and district leader Resch have already been informed of the problem. There will be a meeting on Thursday to take further measures. “We would like to find concrete actions against car parades,” said the ÖVP politician. It must become clear what steps the city of Vienna could take and how the police will act against the tuners in the future.
Kahlenberg was also a tuner hotspot
“We will not give up,” assures Resch in an interview with the “Krone”. The neighborhood has been struggling with such gatherings and angry residents since the start of the corona pandemic. In the past, Viennese police have broken up tuner meetings at Kahlenberg in the hunt for traffic offenders. Concrete walls were also built there as obstacles. The measure had an effect and the situation on the mountain has improved.
In focus during important actions
“However, we cannot place concrete walls in Heiligenstädter Straße – and we cannot close the street either,” said Resch. Next is the police command of the city of Döbling. The officials are also aware of the complaints. “The site is the focus of important operations and patrol work. Accordingly, focal points take place almost every day, even during the week,” the LPD Vienna announced to the “Krone” on Thursday.
The problem at the meetings: “Driving behavior that is adapted to the traffic regulations does not constitute an administrative violation. Naturally, an attempt is made to enter into a constructive discussion with those involved that excessive driving behavior, without an administrative violation, could contradict the social perspectives of residents.” “explains the police. If administrative violations are found, they will be reported.
Neighbors now have to wait
So the angry residents will just have to wait and see. As the angry “Krone” reader from Döbling (42) suspects: “It was one of the first warm days. It will escalate even further in the summer.”
