Senior woman back in the US – missed departure: passengers left for the ship

Date:

Nine passengers on the “Norwegian Dawn” will probably not soon forget this holiday. They arrived at the port over an hour late after a shore excursion and were left behind (see video above). They then followed the ship through several countries on their own.

As reported, a medical emergency during the tour was the reason for the delay. An 80-year-old woman suffered a concussion and required medical treatment. The woman had already been examined on board, the cruise line said. After the emergency, the team would have contacted the passenger directly. She is now doing better and has returned to the US via Lisbon.

The other passengers tried their luck at the next port in Gambia. However, the “Norwegian Dawn” did not even dock there because of the weather. Despite this setback, the group did not give up and continued to Senegal by ferry. The eight passengers can now get back on board and continue their journey.

Hardly any reimbursement of costs
The cruise line said it shared guests’ disappointment but was obliged to ensure safety on board due to the weather changes. “Since these guests were on a private tour and did not return to the ship at the stated time, they are responsible for reboarding the ship at the next available port.”

Only the costs for the trip from Gambia to Senegal will be reimbursed. Passengers must pay the rest out of their own pockets. If the excursion had been booked on board, the shipping company would have had to wait or organize and pay for the onward journey in the event of a delay.
