A tree fell on a couple’s car on Saturday evening in Schiedlberg. The driver (40) was injured. There were about 50 operations in all of Upper Austria because of bad weather.
Friday at 10 p.m., a 40-year-old from the Steyr-Land district drove her car in Schiedlberg on the L1372 in the direction of Sierning. Her 42-year-old husband was in the passenger seat. Suddenly, due to the prevailing thunderstorm, a 50-centimeter-thick tree fell onto the road and hit the car near the hood and windshield.
Prisoners were able to free themselves
The car ended up trapped under the tree, but the occupants managed to free themselves. The driver was injured and was taken to hospital in Steyr by rescue services. The passenger was uninjured and the car was declared a total loss.
The severe thunderstorm sparked about 50 firefighters in Upper Austria. The focus was on the districts of Ried im Innkreis, where around 25 storm-related operations were to be carried out around Aurolzmünster.
