Curious excuse – mowing? Tyrolean (65) sets fire to a friend’s lawn

Date:

Apparently well-intentioned, but poorly executed: instead of mowing the lawn in a friend’s garden, a 65-year-old in Telfs, Tyrol, allegedly simply set the lawn on fire. Ultimately, an area of almost 60 square meters of lawn burned down. Police and fire brigade arrived.

He probably won’t be asking this acquaintance for favors anytime soon. The The building owner asked the 65-year-old local resident to leave his building on Tuesday afternoon to mow the lawn while he is away. “When the man returned to his home, he noticed that the 65-year-old had set the lawn on fire and that there was heavy smoke,” police said.

Suspect ran away
Ultimately, an area of about 40 to 60 square meters burned down in the garden. The suspected driver of the ignition left the scene before alerted police arrived. “But he was found and confronted not far away,” investigators continued.

Curious explanation for fire
The suspect apparently made no secret of what he had done. He also had a statement ready: “He told the police that he deliberately set the lawn on fire because they used to do it that way so that the grass would grow back better,” investigators say.

The fire was eventually extinguished quickly. The alarmed fire brigade, which arrived with about twenty men, subsequently carried out follow-up extinguishing work.
