In the middle of the night, a garden hut in Braunau, Upper Austria, caught fire and the flames also spread to two surrounding huts in the allotment settlement. Four fire brigades had to be deployed and they brought firefighting water from nearby Enknach.
“The numerous gas bottles in various grills and heaters also posed a special challenge,” the volunteer fire brigade of the city of Braunau informed after the operation. She was called to the city’s allotments around 3am on Sunday.
Multiple calls
During the trip, the state warning center informed the operations manager: Several calls had already been received and several cabins were on fire.
The Florianis immediately launched a firefighting attack with heavy breathing apparatus and also used water from nearby Enknach. About three hours later the extinguishing work was completed.
Cause of fire unclear
The owners of the building – they had probably barbecued beforehand – had left the garden shed around midnight. Neighbors later noticed the fire and raised the alarm. Fortunately, no one was injured; the cause of the fire is still unclear.
