A forest fire broke out in eastern Spain during unusually high temperatures. The flames raging near Valencia have already destroyed more than 600 hectares and several houses are also threatened. As a precaution, about 200 people were brought to safety.
The fire reportedly broke out in Tárbena on Sunday. It was favored by strong winds and exceptionally high temperatures for this time of year and the resulting drought: the thermometer climbed to as high as 30 degrees Celsius in the region this weekend.
Serious forest fires are still raging in Spain. In 2022, approximately 300,000 hectares of land were destroyed by more than 500 fires. Last year there were approximately 91,000 hectares of burned area.
