The Austrian travel agencies and tour operators are satisfied with the current booking situation. About 80 percent of the surveyed companies expect a good development this year. In the Chamber of Commerce survey, they also showed which countries Austrians travel to most often.
Those who travel by car, bus or train mainly choose Croatia as their destination. Italy and Austria follow. When it comes to air travel, Greece is the most popular destination, followed by Spain and Turkey. Thailand, the Maldives and the US are the most popular long-haul holiday destinations. This is the conclusion of a recent survey by the Association of Travel Agencies of the Austrian Chamber of Commerce. 73 companies participated.
85 percent expect revenue growth in the summer
In general, domestic travel agencies and tour operators are satisfied with the current booking situation. Last year, turnover already reached the pre-corona level of 2019. However, broken down by individual companies, a differentiated picture emerges. Some companies were unable to match the turnover of 2019 in the previous year, while others were able to increase significantly. In any case, the majority (85 percent) expect turnover growth for the coming summer.
According to Statistics Austria, Austrian travel agencies and tour operators generated a turnover of EUR 4.39 billion in 2019. In 2021 that was only 1.35 billion euros. There is no number from the previous year.
