Swept away by the river – hiker (25) fell into a waterfall

Date:

The hike of a 25-year-old who traveled with some friends from Übersaxen (Vorarlberg) towards the “Üble Schlucht” in Laterns ended quite badly on Sunday afternoon.

While climbing, the young man slipped, lost his balance and fell into the passing River Frutz. Since the current of the river was very strong, he could not reach the bank. He was swept away by the Frutz and fell over a waterfall. There he lay in a pool.

Serious head injury
The 25-year-old suffered superficial head injuries and traumatic brain injuries. He was first treated by the Rankweil mountain rescue service and then rescued with the help of rope. The crew of the C8 emergency medical helicopter then took the injured man to the state hospital in Feldkirch.
