Two German-Russians were arrested in Bavaria on Wednesday morning. The men are believed to be Russian saboteurs who, according to a media report, wanted to carry out attacks on German territory. The main targets were military transport routes.
The purpose of the sabotage was to stop German aid to Ukraine, Spiegel reports. The 39-year-old main suspect has been exchanging ideas with Russian contacts about possible attack targets since October 2023, the magazine quotes researchers.
The German-Russian authorities are said to have agreed to carry out arson and explosive attacks on military infrastructure, weapons factories and industrial sites. He also spied on and photographed American bases in Bavaria with a second-person view. Corresponding images have been sent to Russian customers.
German-Russian was known to the authorities
The Federal Public Prosecution Service accuses the main suspect of, among other things, activities of secret service agents, agent activities for sabotage purposes and ‘depicting’ military facilities in a way that endangers security. Both men are now in custody. According to “Spiegel”, they were taken to Karlsruhe and presented to investigating judges of the Federal Court of Justice.
The 39-year-old German-Russian is said to have been part of a pro-Russian separatist group in eastern Ukraine between 2014 and 2016 and was therefore on the radar of the security authorities.
