The Israeli army is said to have prepared at least twice this week for retaliatory strikes against Iran. But these were canceled again, the American broadcaster ABC reported. The Revolutionary Guards in Iran are said to be on high alert.
Some were in secure locations or underground shelters, an unnamed senior US government official said. However, he and the White House do not expect a possible Israeli counterattack on Iran before the end of the month. Previously this was “unlikely”, although the situation could always change.
There is currently great international concern that the conflict in the Middle East could spread further if Israel retaliates harshly. Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi warned again on Wednesday of a “devastating” response from his country if Israel carries out the slightest “aggression” against Iran.
Iran: Has not used modern weapons
As reported, Iranian forces and their allies fired more than 500 rockets, cruise missiles and drones into Israel over the weekend, most of which were intercepted. The reason was a suspected Israeli attack on the Iranian embassy in the Syrian capital Damascus. Two Revolutionary Guard generals were killed.
“We acted against the Zionist enemy with old weapons of minimal power,” their commander said on Thursday. A year ago, the Revolutionary Guards presented a fourth version of a medium-range missile of the “Khorramshahr” type, which can be equipped with a 1.5-ton nuclear warhead. Another unused “Sedshil” rocket could reach Israel in about seven minutes. New types of weapons are constantly being introduced into Iran, but developments cannot be independently verified.
What are the consequences of cyber attacks?
According to ABC, the Israeli war cabinet can still respond with, for example, cyber attacks or attacks on Iranian allies in the region. The US and EU governments in particular have called for refraining from mutual attacks (see video above).
