A 55-year-old local man was seriously injured in a forestry accident in Serfaus on Thursday afternoon. He was flown to Zams Hospital.
The accident happened around 2:50 p.m. during logging work in a forest area in Serfaus, the so-called “Beutelboden” at an altitude of about 1,600 meters. A 55-year-old entrepreneur from a timber and transport company was busy with the felling work. The local man was supported by his 32-year-old son by operating the winch of the parked tractor.
Mountain rescue freed victims
As he tried to pull a tree trunk tied to a rope up an embankment under a forest path, the trunk tipped over a hill and buried the 55-year-old. He became trapped under the tree trunk and suffered serious injuries to his chest. The son made an emergency call and the Fiss mountain rescue service freed the accident victim. The emergency medical helicopter took the victim to the hospital in Zams.
