A man set himself on fire outside the courthouse where the Trump trial is underway, two police sources confirmed to CNN.
The man went to the park across the street from the courthouse and threw leaflets in the air, a senior law enforcement official told CNN.
He then pulled something out of a backpack — it was not immediately clear what it was — and set himself on fire, the officer said.
Investigators are now moving to collect the leaflets thrown into the air by the unidentified man, another senior police official said. A CNN team on the scene observed one of the flyers. It read: “NYU is a mafia front” and included several allegations of misconduct at the school.
At least one person tried to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher, and a paramedic rushed to the man and tried to help him, according to CNN’s Laura Coates, who reported on the scene before her outside the courthouse.
More details coming soon…
