At least 28 people were killed in suspected attacks by the Islamic State (IS) terrorist militia in Syria on Friday evening, activists said.
The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said an attack on a military bus killed 22 Syrian soldiers and allied fighters. Seven people were injured in the attack near the town of Al-Taibah in the eastern part of the country.
Six Syrian soldiers were killed in a new attack in the eastern Syrian province of Deir ez-Zor, activists said. There are said to be more injuries. In addition, two soldiers were captured by the terrorists, the report said.
No resolution to the conflict in sight
Initially, no group claimed responsibility for the attacks. The Syrian Observatory suspects that IS is responsible. Years ago, the terrorist militia controlled large areas in Syria and Iraq and is now considered militarily defeated. However, IS cells are still active in both countries and carrying out attacks.
The civil war in Syria began in the spring of 2011 with anti-government protests. The government has taken violent action against this. There is no political solution to the conflict in sight.
