It was the time of the financial crisis. The problems of the global real estate market had reached the heart of capitalism: Wall Street in New York and the European financial centers of London and Frankfurt. Banks had to be bailed out, and the banking crisis was followed by the sovereign debt crisis. Food prices rose, as did world hunger.
