Jean Ziegler is 90 – “Every five seconds a child still dies of hunger”

Date:

Even at the age of 90, Swiss sociologist and globalization critic Jean Ziegler is still fighting world hunger. Conny Bischofberger conducted this interview sixteen years ago with the former UN Special Rapporteur on the right to food – and it has remained shockingly relevant.

It was the time of the financial crisis. The problems of the global real estate market had reached the heart of capitalism: Wall Street in New York and the European financial centers of London and Frankfurt. Banks had to be bailed out, and the banking crisis was followed by the sovereign debt crisis. Food prices rose, as did world hunger. In 2008, on his 74th birthday, I spoke with the great globalization critic and sociologist Jean Ziegler.
