The biography of FPÖ leader Herbert Kickl, written by two ‘profile’ journalists, has already made headlines. Now the focus is no longer only on the content, but also on the financing of the project. The city of Vienna, as well as the Future Fund of the Republic, are officially listed as “friendly supporters”. The “Crown” has taken a closer look at the matter.
“Apparently someone wants to ride the wave of success of the FPÖ and make money,” FPÖ leader Herbert Kickl explains in a YouTube video about the biography, which he did not give permission for. As is known, Herbert Kickl’s maternal grandparents are incorrectly called Leopoldine and Johann Lackner in the book, but their real names were Josefa and Josef Lackner.
Shortly after the FPÖ announced Kickl’s reaction video on Wednesday, which went online at 7 p.m. that evening, Zsolnay publishers published an erratum. The authors said they had made a “regrettable mistake.” Apologies to “anyone mentioned” and the error will be corrected in the second edition. So far so good. A small reference in the book’s opening pages provides additional fuel for controversy.
