Smuggling is a lucrative business and gives smugglers the opportunity to be creative. The police could see with their own eyes how creative this was on Sunday evening in Vösendorf, Lower Austria. A witness had previously made an emergency call.
According to the witness, he observed a box truck from which refugees had climbed. A little later, five Syrians (aged between 16 and 50) were discovered, as well as the van containing a Bulgarian (36). The confessor had received 6,000 euros per person for the trip.
He housed the migrants in boxes under the floorboard (see photo below). These could be opened hydraulically. The human trafficker was taken to prison.
Children and young people crammed into the trunk
A case on the Bavarian border is equally shocking. An 18-year-old Ukrainian picked up six underage Syrians in Slovenia for 3,000 euros each to take them to Germany via Austria. He wanted to increase his salary.
Four children, including a seven-year-old, sat unbelted in the back seat, while a five-year-old and a 15-year-old were stuffed into the trunk. The 15-year-old was so weak that he vomited in front of the police.
