Nothing was left of a barn in Feldkirchen an der Donau that burned down completely in the middle of the city center on Saturday night. A night owl discovered the meter-high flames and raised the alarm. The cause of the fire is still unclear, but the suspicion of arson cannot be ruled out.
“When we got there, I saw that the fire had spread to the neighboring house,” reports operations manager Simon Berger of the Feldkirchen an der Donau fire brigade. The windows of the building, next to which a shed was completely engulfed in flames, were broken around 1 a.m.
The luck: the house was uninhabited and there was no one in the barn. No one was injured in the fire.
“Fire in the middle of the town square”
A night owl discovered the flames in the shed where wood was stored and raised the alarm. “We launched a firefighting attack from all sides,” Berger said. “The challenge was that the fire was in the middle of the town square. There were strong flying sparks.”
A total of six fire brigades and approximately 150 Florianis were deployed. For the Feldkirchen volunteer fire brigade, work was not completed until around 5 a.m.
Investigations are underway
The police investigation into the cause of the fire is still ongoing. Arson cannot be ruled out at this time, because both the barn and the adjacent buildings were uninhabited. And recently piles of wood burned in the neighboring community…
