Because a 40-year-old mistook a jogger (30) for an attacker when he ‘approached’ his 9-year-old daughter in Vienna’s 15th district on Sunday evening, he knocked him to the ground.
Around 6 p.m., a 40-year-old was walking with his nine-year-old daughter on Sechshauser Strasse. Because the man was drunk, he grossly misjudged a situation.
An approaching jogger who had no harm in mind was knocked to the ground by a punch from the 40-year-old. He mistakenly believed the jogger was an attacker who ‘approached’ his daughter.
Jogger injured in the face
The injured jogger was treated by rescuers in Vienna and then taken to hospital. He reported that the 40-year-old attacked him without warning as he walked by with his daughter.
The police temporarily arrested the 40-year-old. During interrogation he confessed to the crime. He explained that his excessive alcohol consumption led to an incorrect assessment of the situation. On instructions from the Viennese public prosecutor’s office, he was released after his complaint.
