It is unclear why a 73-year-old from Enns lost control of his car on the B 309 on Wednesday afternoon. Alcohol apparently played no role, but the consequences were fatal: he crashed into oncoming traffic. A total of three people were seriously injured in the accident.
The pensioner from Enns drove his Mercedes from Asten towards Steyr on Wednesday at noon. Near Kronstorf, a Slovak truck with a trailer came towards him, driven by a Ukrainian (57). Directly behind it was a panel van in which a 53-year-old from Maria Neustift and his passenger (18) were sitting.
Trucks and vans rammed
After the 73-year-old’s car suddenly went out of control and ended up in the left opposite lane, he first hit the side wall of the truck and then crashed head-on into the 53-year-old’s van. The force of the impact threw the vehicle over an embankment, where it remained badly damaged, while the Mercedes came to a stop on the road.
Cut from the wreckage
The seriously injured pensioner had to be rescued from the completely destroyed wreck by firefighters and taken to the Steyr clinic after treatment by the emergency doctor. The 53-year-old and his passenger were taken to the Linz accident hospital.
