Tragic forest accident Friday in Frohnleiten (Styria): a 45-year-old man was found dead in the forest. The rescue operation in steep terrain required the emergency services.
Around 8 a.m. on Friday, the man went into his own forest in Frohnleiten to fell trees and do forestry work, police said. He was supposed to come home around noon, but stayed away.
At 1 p.m. his mother went into the woods to take a look. She discovered her son, pinned motionless between two tree trunks. The woman immediately called 911 and the Red Cross and fire brigade arrived, as did the C17 emergency medical helicopter.
“Air rescuers and the emergency doctor had to be lifted from the helicopter to the accident victim due to the impassable, steep terrain,” police said. It was too late: “However, the emergency doctor could only determine that the 45-year-old was dead.” The 45-year-old was fatally injured in his upper body by the trunks of two fallen fir trees.
The man’s body had to be taken by helicopter to a pasture and removed from there.
