After the sensational bomb threat on Wednesday against the Academic High School in Linz, daily life was almost back to normal at the school on Thursday. A psychologist was available for the young people. The bomb threat has not yet been identified. He will be charged for the costs of the police operation.
Not all 420 students attended classes again on Thursday at the academic high school at Spittelwiese in Linz. “A few more are missing today than usual,” says director Gerhard Breuer (46) in an interview with “Krone”. Some parents did not want to send their children back to school for safety reasons.
Latin Matura at another high school
The Latin Matura planned for Thursday could take place, albeit in a slightly different organizational form. “Eleven students obtained their central final diploma at the Fadingergymnasium. “It was already planned this way on Wednesday because it was not clear whether our secondary school would be open again today,” Breuer explains. This was intended to prevent those affected from not being able to obtain their Latin high school diploma until the autumn.
A school psychologist was available to all students at the academic high school on Wednesday. “There would also have been the option of calling on the state’s crisis assistance, but that was not necessary,” the director emphasizes. Most young people had survived the exciting incident of the day before. “The students and all of us are now of course very interested in discovering the bomb threat. But I can’t imagine that this could come from our school.”
Police operations costs
The police investigation is in full swing. The threat has not yet been identified. If he succeeds, he will likely face enormous cost demands from the executive branch. 28,000 euros are charged for the deployment of personnel alone. In addition, there are the costs of the helicopter flight for the tactical bomb dismantler, which was flown in from Wiener Neustadt. It probably amounts to several thousand euros. And he could also be billed for the loss of turnover of the stores affected by the hours-long road closure.
