What goes through your mind when you remove the condom during the act? The phenomenon of ‘stealthing’, i.e. deliberately removing a condom during sex, is an assault and is punishable in Austria. Two ‘Krone’ readers talk about how traumatic this experience is and what goes through a perpetrator’s mind.
Embarrassing and punishable according to the Ministry of Justice in Austria: If the condom is secretly removed without consent, this process is called “stealthing”. Out of shame or the thought that no one will believe them, many victims do not even report such cases to the police. The procedure is often stopped anyway. The evidence is lacking.
The ‘stealthing’ phenomenon
Selina* is 40 years old, recently divorced and only started dating again a few months ago. She had never heard of “stealthing” before telling her friend about her experience and pointing out that the man was committing a crime.
“In my circle of friends, probably more than a third have already been affected by this phenomenon. When it happened to me, I didn’t really register it at first. I was like, ‘Where did you put the condom?'”
