Weimann in the EURO series – “Instead of building blocks, he sorted tennis balls”

Date:

The next EURO star in our big “Krone” series is Andi Weimann, who, the son of two hurdlers, moved to England at the age of 15 – and has remained there to this day. Mama Sabine explains why it was a tennis coach who made the attacker’s football career possible and why her grandchildren know exactly what a Nackerpatzl is, despite the distance.

Many Austrians came, but only one stayed in the motherland of football: Andi Weimann! Who moved from Rapid to Aston Villa’s academy a month before his 16th birthday and lived with a host family instead of at a boarding school. I immediately felt at ease. Bloomed. Scored 17 goals in 113 Premier League games and went on to establish himself as a regular in the Championship, the second division. Only a tennis teacher ensured that the ÖFB attacker was allowed to attend football training at all.
