In February, a terrible act of bloodshed shocked Thailand and Austria. On the famous party island Koh Phanag, Upper Austrian Max H. (42) was brutally beaten to death with an iron bar. A 37-year-old Moroccan is seen as a strong suspect, but he now denies all allegations.
42-year-old Upper Austrian Max H. was brutally beaten to death with an iron bar on the island of Koh Phangan in Thailand at the end of February (we reported). A 37-year-old Moroccan was arrested as the suspected perpetrator.
During a preliminary hearing in court, the man pleaded “not guilty.” This is surprising because shortly after an arrest he explained that he had acted in self-defense. However, the Public Prosecution Service regards the African as the perpetrator and speaks of murder. We now eagerly await the main hearing, which will take place on July 8.
Action after the party
The 42-year-old apparently celebrated a private party at his home with several friends in February, a police investigation in Thailand revealed. He probably got into an argument with a 37-year-old Moroccan. According to media reports in Thailand, the two men then left the house.
There the North African allegedly took a metal object from the Upper Austrian’s pick-up and hit him. The suspected perpetrator then fled, but was arrested a short time later.
